Nine Quick Tips on How to be a Great IT Leader

1. Do Your Job

First and foremost, do your own job. Managing people isn’t an excuse to let them do the work whilst you look on.

2. Acknowledge The Positive

See the positives in your staff and their work. Don’t be one of those bosses who only sees what’s missing rather than what’s been achieved. Positivity breeds productivity.

3. Be Vulnerable

If you make a mistake, be big about it and apologize. No one expects a manager to be super-human. Everyone likes someone who takes responsibility for their actions. Being honest will help you create a culture of honesty.

Let’s Celebrate What Is Right With the World

In celebrating what is right, we can find the energy to fix what’s wrong.

You say the words are “ I won’t believe it, until I see it”, but you’re wrong. The words are “I won’t see it, ’till I believe it”. During my quest to turn around the under-performing mid Atlantic region, I embarked on how to build a highly reliable organization. I identified a great program for my teams to follow. I found a highly inspirational, best-selling training program that utilizes stunning photography and powerful dialogue to help them view things from a different perspective. The program focuses on providing quality care, to help recognize the possibilities and find solutions for many of the challenges before people. I love this video, going as far as even sharing it with my Kids and my daughter’s High School peer class, in order to show the kids to be the best they can be.
